Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (1st Edition)

"EngineStart MFC Application" Error
This was another game I couldn't get to work on my Windows 8 laptop. It would install fine, but on launch it would immediately give me this message. I found this strange because I also have the Millionaire 2nd and 3rd Editions installed, and they work fine.
I know this will sound nuts - but what worked for me was to rename the game executable, "Millionaire.exe." It doesn't matter what I change the name to - Test.exe, RegisPhilbin.exe, SparklePony.exe -- the game will always load for me now so long as it is NOT named Millionaire.exe. If I change the name back to Millionaire.exe, it crashes again with the same message.
This is such a weird solution I probably wouldn't believe it myself if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. All I can say is if you're getting this error, try it. It can't really hurt anything and just might work.
