Triple Play 2000
64 Bit Install Guide
Triple Play 2000 has a 16-bit setup program, so you will be rebuffed if you try to install it in a 64-bit Windows.
Triple Play 2000 can be made to run, though, even on a 64-bit Windows 10.
Manual Install Step #1 - Copying Game Files from CD
We will begin by copying the game files to the hard drive manually.
Create a folder on your hard drive to install the game to. I have my game copied to C:/Games/Sports/Triple Play 2000, and I recommend you do the same. You can go rogue and place it somewhere else, but you'll create more work for yourself later. :)
Anyway, insert your Triple Play 2000 game CD and access your CD drive in File Explorer. You will need to copy the following folders:
art
audio
data
thrash
video
Once the folders are in place, copy the following files from the CD to your main Triple Play directory:
autorun.apm
autorun.exe
autorun.info
eacsnd.dll
ip.cfg
ip.exe
msapi.dll
tp00_r.exe
When you're done, your game directory should look like this:
Step 2 - Install the Registry Keys
Next we need to add the registry keys for the game.
The registry key contains a reference to the CD drive letter, and and the game will not work if this letter does not match that of your CD drive. To simplify things, I'm offering several versions of the key here. Simply download the version that corresponds with your CD drive letter.
Download the TP2000 Registry Key (CD Drive Letter D)
Download the TP2000 Registry Key (CD Drive Letter E)
Download the TP2000 Registry Key (CD Drive Letter F)
Download the TP2000 Registry Key (CD Drive Letter G)
A couple of notes before your install the key:
(1) I have the game set up to run through Glide, so make sure you have the nGlide glide wrapper installed on your system beforehand. It is possible to run the game in Direct3D, but Glide fixes several bugs which have been introduced in the D3D mode over the years.
(2) Pay special attention to the "Install Dir" entry inside the reg key:
"Install Dir"="C:\\Games\\Sports\\Triple Play 2000"
This line HAS to match the directory you installed the game in. If you placed your game in a directory OTHER than C:\Games\Sports\Triple Play 2000 (or if you have a really oddball CD drive letter I didn't list), you will have to edit the registry key to reflect where you have the game installed.
If you need to make a change, right click the .reg file in File Explorer and hit "edit". This will open a Notepad window.
Once you're sure your settings are correct, save your .reg file. Then, add it to the registry by double-clicking the file in File Explorer. You will receive a prompt similar to the following.
Click Yes and the key should be added to the registry. You should now be able to
play the game by launching TP00_R.exe.
Step 3 (Optional) - Set 16-bit color mode
This step is not required -- but if you don't do it, every time you start the game you will receive a popup asking you to switch your desktop to 16-bit color mode.
Return to your TP2000 game folder in File Explorer. Right click on TP00_R.EXE and hit "Properties." Then, on the following screen, click the "compatibility" tab." Under Settings, put a check mark next to "Reduced color mode" and select "16-bit (65536) color from the dropdown bar. Press Apply and then hit OK.
That should do it for this one. Enjoy playing the game and reliving your fondest memories of the Steroid Era. :)
