Windows 10 Access Denied Error

When attempting to run NHL 2001, Windows 10 spits out the following message. You're told to log in as an administrator, but even if you do, the game still won't load.

The error has to do with NHL 2001's SafeDisc copy protection, which Windows 10 no longer supports. The only way around this that I know of is to replace the game executable with a no-cd crack. Unzip the nhl2001.exe contained in this zip file to your game directory and replace the original file.

This crack is for version 1.03, so make sure you've installed the EA SPORTS patch first.

Slow Framerate on Windows 8

NHL 2001 should install and load fine on Windows 8, but you may find yourself capped at about 25 FPS. To fix, unzip this patched ddraw.dll to your NHL 2001 folder.

Alternatively, you may use the nGlide glide wrapper to run in Glide mode. You'll have to install the NHL 2001 registry fix available here.

Additional Troubleshooting

If you have continued issues, try setting your nhl2001.exe to run in Windows 95 compatibility and Run as Administrator modes.
