Monopoly (1995 CD-ROM Version)

64-bit Windows Installation

An error message appears when trying to run setup.exe off of the game CD. The setup program is incompatible with 64-bit versions of Windows, but the actual game can be made to work in spite of this. We will need to transfer the needed files from the CD to the hard drive manually.

Step #1 - Copying Files from CD

To begin, press Windows key + E on your keyboard to open a File Explorer window. Next, create a folder on your hard drive to store the game files in. Select your hard drive from the sidebar, then press "New Folder" in the ribbon.

Open the "MONOPOLY" folder. At this screen, highlight the following folders: AI, DATA, MAPTABLE, SCORES, and SOUNDS16. What you're going to want to do is copy these folders and paste them inside the Monopoly folder you created on your C: drive.

**After you've done this, RENAME the SOUNDS16 folder to SOUNDS**

With the folders copied, return to your CD and access the Monopoly folder once again. Scroll down the list of files and highlight the following:

AIVARS.TRE
BC450RTL.DLL
CW3215.DLL
CW3215MT.DLL
DEEDS.TRE
DLG_ENG.DLL
FUNFACTS.TRE
MONOPOLY.EXE
MONOPOLY.INI
SCORES.TRE
STRINGS.TRE

Paste these files inside the Monopoly directory. Once you're finished, this is what you should be looking at:

Step #2 - Download and Copy WING32.DLL

Next, download the following file and place it inside the C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64 directory.

WING32.DLL

If you don't do this, you'll receive the following error when you try to start the game:

Step #3 - Set Monopoly.exe Properties

At this point, you can try starting the game by double clicking on the Monopoly.exe file. If the game hangs with a black screen, you should be able to resolve the crash by setting the game to Windows 95 Mode.

Return to your File Explorer window and right mouse button click on the Monopoly.exe file. Select "Properties" from the popup menu.

At the next screen, hit the compatibility tab. At this window, place a checkmark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 95.

Try launching the game again and it should advance to the main menu:
