64-bit Install Guide (Original CD)

Like many other old, er," classic" games, Creep Night's setup program is incompatible with 64-bit versions of Windows. The game itself can still be played - it's just a matter of finding another way to copy the game files to your hard drive.

In this instance, a new, 64-bit compatible installer for the game has been provided by the Sierra Help Pages.

You can download it from this page

It should be noted that you have to own an original copy of Creep Night on CD to use this installer. If you're like me and you bought this game as part of the "Pinball Madness 3" CD collection, this setup program will not work.

64-bit Install (Pinball Madness 3 Version)

If you have the Pinball Madness 3 CD, or if the Help Pages installer does not work for you for some other reason, you will need to do a manual install of the game.

Create a folder for the game on your hard drive and copy the following five files from your CD:

SIERRA.INF

Located in the /CREEP NIGHT folder on the Pinball Madness 3 CD

LANGUAGE.INF

Located in the /CREEP NIGHT/ENGLISH folder on the Pinball Madness 3 CD

PINBALL2.INI

Located in the /CREEP NIGHT/ENGLISH folder on the Pinball Madness 3 CD

OVERRIDE.DAT

Located in the /CREEP NIGHT/ENGLISH/LARGE folder on the Pinball Madness 3 CD

PINBALL2.EXE

Located in the /CREEP NIGHT/UPBALL2 folder on the Pinball Madness 3 CD

Your game folder should look like this now:

While we're here, right click on the PINBALL2.exe and hit properties. Select the compatibility tab, and set the following options - Reduced color mode (8-bit color), Run in 640x480 screen resolution, and Run this program as an administrator.

Next, we must either create or edit a file called SIERRA.ini. If you have previously installed a Sierra game, this file may already exist in your /WINDOWS directory. If it does, you can simply edit the existing file. It it does not, you will have to create a file in Notepad called SIERRA.INI and place it in your /WINDOWS directory.

The .ini file needs to have the following information in it:

[UPBALL2]

InstallPath=C:\Games\Pinball\UPBALL2

CDPath=D:\CREEPN~5\UPBALL2

The InstallPath will be the directory on your hard drive which contains your PINBALL2.exe. I have my game placed in C:\Games\Pinball\UPBALL2. You have to change this line to reflect wherever you have the game installed.

The CDPath is the location of the UPBALL2 folder on your game CD. Note that if your CD-ROM drive letter is not D:\, you will have to change this letter to whatever your CD-ROM drive letter is.

Once the SIERRA.ini is in place, you should be able to play the game by launching PINBALL2.EXE.
